Russia launches massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv

Russia launched a massive aerial offensive against Kyiv and its surrounding metropolitan area on August 5, 2026. The attack utilized a combination of ballistic missiles, long-range projectiles, and drones, resulting in at least 17 deaths and 44 injuries, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The offensive involved 24 ballistic missiles, including four identified as Zircon or Oniks, and 115 drones. While Ukrainian forces successfully neutralized or shot down 98 drones, none of the ballistic missiles were intercepted. The strikes hit 26 different locations, causing fires and damage to logistics facilities, warehouses, railway infrastructure, and civilian buildings.
