Russia launches massive air assault on Kyiv and Ukrainian regions
Russia launched a massive, coordinated overnight air assault against Ukraine, targeting Kyiv and several other regions with ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that while Russia deployed 258 drones and two Oniks missiles, defenders intercepted 90% of the drones, one Oniks missile, and seven ballistic missiles.
In Kyiv, debris from intercepted targets fell in the Podilskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, impacting residential buildings and an educational institution. Beyond the capital, missile strikes in Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia injured several civilians. Ukrainian officials noted that the attacks targeted critical infrastructure, including industrial facilities, energy installations, and warehouses.
On the ground, Russian forces have made tactical advances, reaching the city of Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region and approaching Slovyansk, which is reportedly being encircled from two directions. In Kupyansk, reports indicate significant desertion within Ukraine's 35th Marine Brigade. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed claims of an upcoming Russian mobilization as misinformation.
