Russia launched a massive overnight and daytime air assault against Ukraine, targeting nine cities including Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih. The attack utilized a combination of 258 drones, Onyx cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles such as Iskander-M and KN-23.

Ukrainian air defenses reported intercepting nearly 90 percent of the drones and several ballistic missiles. Despite these efforts, the strikes caused significant damage to civilian and industrial infrastructure. In Kyiv, debris fell in residential courtyards and near an educational institution in the Shevchenkivskyi district, while the Pechersk district saw debris fall near the Lobanovskyi Stadium. In the Zaporizhzhia region, a 78-year-old woman was killed, and multiple others were injured.

In Kharkiv, a drone strike on a residential building resulted in one death and several injuries. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the strikes targeted military, oil, and logistics infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the urgent need for more advanced air defense systems, specifically Patriot missile batteries, to counter the increasing frequency and sophistication of Russian ballistic and jet-powered drone attacks.
