Russia lifts ban on Roblox gaming platform
Russia’s digital ministry announced that the ban on the United States‑owned gaming platform Roblox has been lifted after the company agreed to implement a series of child‑safety measures. Roblox pledged to restrict access to adult‑oriented games, strengthen its content‑moderation system and comply with Russian legal requirements.
The platform, popular among Russian children and ranking third in usage time behind TikTok, faced the ban in December 2023 over alleged extremist material and LGBT propaganda. The decision to unblock Roblox followed a wave of protest letters from tens of thousands of schoolchildren and parents, prompting officials to reconsider the restriction. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the reversal shows that services can return if they obey the law.
Roblox reports more than 150 million daily active users worldwide, with roughly 40 % under the age of 13, highlighting the significance of the platform for Russian youth.
