Russia loses at least 9,000 officers in Ukraine conflict

The KIU research group, which tracks command officer losses in the Russian military, reports that Russia has lost at least 9,000 officers since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine. This figure represents a minimum confirmed count, as it only includes individuals whose identities have been clearly established through public Russian sources, such as obituaries, funeral notices, and memorial plaques.

Over the course of 1,708 days of conflict, the rate of officer attrition has remained relatively stable, with approximately five command officers added to the death list each day. Recent notable losses include at least 20 officers killed during a large-scale missile strike in Donetsk on August 26, many of whom served within the Center grouping of forces. Additionally, the Russian Knights aerobatic team recently confirmed the deaths of two fighter pilots, Colonel Oleg Yerofeyev and Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Kochetov, following a training flight in a Su-30SM multirole fighter on October 21.
