Russia modifies military cooperation pact with Belarus to speed arms deliveries

President Vladimir Putin signed amendments to the technical‑military cooperation agreement with Belarus, aiming to shorten delivery times for components, spare parts and next‑generation weaponry. The update reflects the strategic alliance forged after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and follows a recent acceleration of joint defence projects.

In May, Russia and Belarus conducted their first joint nuclear exercises on Belarusian territory and deployed tactical nuclear weapons and hypersonic Oryshik missiles as a deterrent against NATO. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has denied any intention to enter the war in Ukraine, despite Ukrainian claims that Belarus is building roads, a fuel depot and an ammunition store near the Ukrainian border.
