Russia offers mediation to stabilize Middle East and protect Iran

Russia has expressed its readiness to support mediation efforts aimed at stabilizing the Middle East and ending aggression against Iran, provided it receives formal requests from relevant parties. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov stated that Moscow is prepared to assist in maintaining regional stability, potentially through an updated security concept for the Persian Gulf.

The offer comes amid heightened tensions following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. Recent escalations include U.S. military strikes against Iranian targets in retaliation for actions involving merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and subsequent Iranian strikes against U.S. bases in the region. Alimov noted that the situation in Lebanon has further complicated diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
