Russia operates secret military biolab in Tver region reservoir
Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) reports that Russia has established a secret military biolaboratory complex on Lisiy Island, located within the Vyshny Volochyok Reservoir in the Tver region. Operating under the guise of the “Center for Experimental Physiology,” the facility is allegedly used to experiment with dangerous viruses and other pathogens to support Russian military needs.
The project was reportedly commissioned by Vladimir Putin as a high-priority site to ensure national defense and security. The facility is integrated into the Federal Medical-Biological Agency and is protected by air defense systems, with security oversight assigned to Defense Minister Andrey Belousov.
Since 2023, the waters surrounding the island have been designated as a “specially protected zone of regional significance,” prohibiting fishing, swimming, and boating. Intelligence officials warn that the reservoir provides fresh water to several populated areas, including the town of Vyshny Volochyok. Any leakage of pathogens or chemicals into the reservoir could lead to catastrophic epidemic outbreaks affecting both the local population and the wider Russian territory.
