Russia is approaching parliamentary elections for the State Duma next week amid heightened tension. The political climate is further complicated by a persistent fuel crisis caused by Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. This shortage has led to chaos at gas stations, necessitating the deployment of the National Guard in some areas to prevent unrest.

Most opposition parties participating in the election are considered system-approved and controlled by the Kremlin. The liberal Jabloko party, which is actively opposed to the war, has been blocked from running after authorities accused them of receiving foreign funding—allegations experts widely view as fabricated.
