Russia prepares laser and electromagnetic weapons to counter Ukrainian drones

Russia is developing and testing new weaponry based on new physical principles, including laser and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons, to counter large-scale drone attacks from Ukraine. Military expert Yuri Knutov stated these technologies aim to significantly neutralize the drone threat.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported intercepting 1,214 Ukrainian drones over 19 federal subjects between the night of October 28 and the morning of October 29. This surge represents one of the largest drone attacks on Russian territory this year, with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin noting that 613 drones were directed toward the Moscow region.

In response to the conflict, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yury Ushakov indicated that potential three-way negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in Abu Dhabi, UAE, will depend on battlefield developments and the Middle East situation. He noted that European nations would not be invited to these specific talks.
