Russia prepares nuclear-powered Burevestnik missile tests

Russia is preparing to test the 9M730 ‘Burevestnik’, a nuclear-powered cruise missile, near the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Satellite imagery has identified the deployment of specialized telemetry aircraft, including Il-976 SKIP models, and support vessels in the Kara and Barents seas. Due to its nuclear propulsion system and the potential for radioactive fallout, Western observers have referred to the weapon as a ‘flying Chernobyl’.

Separately, the Russian Ministry of Defense released footage of an intercontinental ballistic missile training launch, reporting that the training warheads successfully reached their target zone on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
