Russia questions Trump’s Ukraine stance after G7 summit
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow wants to know whether U.S. President Donald Trump has really altered his position on the Ukraine war following remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 summit in Evian‑les‑Bains. Lavrov cited Macron’s claim that Trump acknowledged Russia’s lack of a peace plan and that the “Anchorage” understandings reached last August were “buried” at the summit.
Trump, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office after the summit, praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “doing a good job” and said Ukraine is “winning” the conflict. U.S. officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Jeremy Levin, echoed the assessment, noting a shift to a Ukrainian offensive and claiming American intelligence assists Kyiv by providing targeting coordinates for strikes inside Russia.
Russia has accused the United States of enabling these precise Ukrainian attacks and criticized the West for increasing defense spending. The dispute adds diplomatic tension to the already strained relations between Moscow, Washington and Kyiv amid ongoing fighting.
