Russia receives new Pantsir air defense systems
High-Precision Systems has delivered a new batch of Pantsir air defense systems to the Russian military. Following successful testing and official military approval, the units have been cleared for operational use.
The delivery includes two distinct versions: the mobile Pantsir-S and the stationary Pantsir-SMD. The Pantsir-S is a hybrid platform utilizing both ballistic missiles and artillery. It features twin 30 mm 2A38M cannons capable of firing 5,000 rounds per minute for short-range defense up to 4 km, alongside 12 radio-guided 57E6 solid-fuel missiles for targets up to 20 km away and 15 km in altitude.
The Pantsir-SMD version relies exclusively on missiles rather than automatic cannons. It offers flexible configurations, capable of carrying either 12 conventional interceptor missiles with a 20 km range or 48 specialized TKB-1055 missiles specifically designed to counter drones at altitudes up to 5 km. While the total number of units delivered remains undisclosed, this shipment follows a previous delivery made in March.
