Russia rejects Ukraine ceasefire proposals over lack of guarantees

Russia has expressed skepticism regarding ceasefire proposals for the conflict in Ukraine, stating that current initiatives lack concrete mechanisms to prevent future arms supplies to Kyiv. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova noted that proposals covering maritime, energy, and aerial sectors do not offer sufficient guarantees for long-term stability.

Moscow has also demanded commercial guarantees, specifically requesting unhindered exports of agricultural products and oil through the Black Sea. While discussions continue, the Kremlin has separated a potential agreement with the United States regarding Russian diesel supplies from any broader peace plan for Ukraine.

Analysts suggest that Russia may be using negotiation proposals as a tool for attrition rather than a genuine path to peace. There are concerns that Moscow is preparing for a decisive military phase aimed at Ukrainian energy and logistical infrastructure, which could have significant implications for European energy markets.
