Russia rejects Zelenskyy's proposal for Putin meeting at G20 summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit in Miami this December. However, the Kremlin has rejected this proposal, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that a meeting in the United States is ‘impossible’ and insisting that any such encounter must take place in Moscow.

Despite the rejection of the Miami summit meeting, there are indications that trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States could resume in October. This potential diplomatic movement follows shuttle diplomacy by American envoys and communications between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

While the possibility of trilateral talks is being considered, significant obstacles remain. Russian officials, including advisor Yuri Ushakov, maintain that territorial disputes are the priority and that there is currently no firm basis for an agreement. Moscow continues to demand that Kyiv cede eastern territories that have not yet been physically captured by the Russian military.
