Robert Gilman released from Russian detention after humanitarian pardon FAST-MOVING
Former US Marine Robert Gilman has been released from Russian detention after more than four years in prison. President Donald Trump announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a pardon for Gilman on humanitarian grounds. The release was not part of a prisoner exchange, and no concessions were made by the United States.
Gilman, 32, was originally arrested in Voronezh in 2022 following an incident involving a police officer. His sentence was later extended due to additional charges. During his detention, his health reportedly deteriorated significantly. Advocates from the group Global Reach reported that Gilman had been in a dissociative stupor, a non-responsive state, and had suffered from severe pneumonia.
Gilman was transported via a US State Department plane to Washington Dulles International Airport, accompanied by his mother and four doctors. Following his arrival, he is expected to be flown to a medical rehabilitation center in San Antonio, Texas, for comprehensive medical and psychological assessment and treatment.
