Russia lost over 50,000 soldiers in September, NATO official reports

A NATO official reported that Russian forces suffered over 50,000 personnel losses in September, including more than 28,000 soldiers killed. This figure represents the highest monthly total for 2026 and aligns closely with estimates from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which reported 46,230 Russian losses for the month.

In comparison, the official noted that Ukrainian forces sustained approximately 5,000 casualties during the same period. The General Staff of Ukraine reported that total Russian losses since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022 have reached approximately 1,552,840 personnel.

Reports also indicate that Russia is facing increasing pressure to replenish its troops while maintaining offensive operations. Consequently, Russia's defense budget for 2026 is projected to reach 17 trillion rubles, an increase of nearly 40% over original plans.
