Garry Kasparov warned of assassination threats by intelligence services

Chess legend and Russian opposition figure Garry Kasparov has been warned by Lithuanian and American intelligence services that his life is in danger. Kasparov, who has lived in the United States since 2013, reported that he and his collaborator, Ivan Tyutrin, are on a target list for assassination.

Following these warnings, Kasparov has been placed under special protection in the U.S. Reports suggest that Russian intelligence services allegedly planned to assassinate Kasparov, Ilya Ponomarev, and Tyutrin to send a message to other dissidents.

In a related legal development, the U.S. Department of Justice has indicted five individuals, including a former Russian intelligence colonel, his son, two Cubans, and a Venezuelan, for allegedly participating in a plot to carry out assassinations and fund attacks in the United States and Europe. The group is believed to have been active for at least two years.
