Russia reports increased wolf sightings and attacks near residential areas

Residents in several Russian regions, including the outskirts of Moscow, are reporting an increase in wolf sightings and encounters near residential areas. Since the beginning of autumn, at least ten sightings have been recorded in the Moscow regions of Taldom, Dmitrov, Serpukhov, and Satura.

Experts suggest that the wolves are entering human settlements in search of easy prey, with younger animals being trained to hunt near inhabited areas. While a population surge has not been confirmed, the movement of animals into new territories has heightened public concern.

Incidents of physical contact have been reported, including an attack in Transbaikalia where a man was bitten and had to defend himself with a knife. Other reports include wolves stalking pedestrians and attacking livestock in regions such as Leningrad, Tyumen, Sverdlovsk, and Kuban. Authorities have advised residents to secure food waste and keep pets indoors to avoid attracting predators.
