Russia reports over 1.55 million military casualties since invasion began

The Ukrainian General Staff reports that Russian military losses have reached an estimated 1,559,230 personnel since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022. In a single 24-hour period ending October 15, Russian losses were reported to be 1,880 personnel.

Reports citing high-ranking NATO officials suggest that Russian casualty rates in September were significantly higher than those of Ukraine. These high losses are attributed to Russian offensive tactics, which involve sending infantry against heavily fortified Ukrainian positions protected by minefields, artillery, machine guns, and drones.

In the Donbas region, Russian forces continue efforts to seize the remaining parts of the Donetsk oblast, including strategic areas around Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are conducting counter-operations, such as Operation Vivaldi, aimed at liberating territory around Lyman.
