Russia reports significant Ukrainian casualties and territorial gains
The Russian Ministry of Defense has released reports detailing significant military activities and casualties in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. According to reports from mid-August 2026, Russian forces operating across six different combat groups claimed to have caused approximately 1,320 to 1,410 Ukrainian military personnel casualties.
In terms of territorial movement, Russian forces reported seizing control of several settlements, including Shcherbakovka in the Kharkiv region and Novoye Pole in the Zaporizhzhia region. The Ministry stated that operations targeted various sectors including the Sever, Zapad, Yuzhnaya, Tsentr, Vostok, and Dnepr groups.
Beyond personnel, the reports claim extensive strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, including energy and transport networks, logistics centers, and UAV storage areas. The Ministry also cited the destruction of significant military hardware, including armored vehicles, artillery, and electronic warfare stations, as well as the interception of various drones and missiles.
