Russia seeks diplomatic stability in Persian Gulf amid regional tensions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov conducted a series of diplomatic visits to Manama, Tehran, and regional capitals to promote de-escalation in the Persian Gulf. During meetings in Bahrain with the Gulf Cooperation Council, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, discussions focused on maritime security and Russian proposals for a collective security framework. Lavrov emphasized that political and diplomatic solutions are the only viable paths to reducing regional tensions.

In Tehran, Lavrov met with President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss regional issues and reaffirm Russia’s commitment to economic and investment agreements. The diplomatic efforts aim to prevent a widening fracture between Iran and Arab monarchies following heightened security concerns in the region. Experts suggest that Russia views peace between Iran and the Gulf states as preferable to the economic instability caused by a prolonged conflict.
