Russia sees high demand for pirated 'Spider-Man' films
Due to Western sanctions preventing the licensing of Hollywood blockbusters, Russian cinemas have begun screening pirated copies of major films. The release of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has seen significant demand in Moscow, with theaters reporting sold-out shows and ticket prices reaching approximately 40 euros.
This illegal film distribution is described as a lucrative business occurring with the tacit approval of the state. The release of the Spider-Man film was reportedly delayed to allow for the screening of the state-funded Russian production 'The Last Hero: Kolobok,' which has struggled to attract audiences.
In addition to being pirated, these Western films are subject to censorship. Reports indicate that the version of 'Spider-Man' shown in Moscow had certain content removed, including a song by the singer Monetotschka, who has been critical of the war in Ukraine.
