Russia sees shift toward longer smartphone lifecycles and used devices

Russian consumers are increasingly extending the lifespan of their smartphones and showing a growing preference for used devices. According to data shared with CNews by Unisimka, a majority of users in Russia are no longer willing to upgrade their devices annually, despite frequent new product launches from manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi.

Survey results indicate that 74% of Russians use their current smartphone for more than one year. Approximately 43% of respondents expressed complete satisfaction with their current devices, while 25% stated that minor feature additions do not justify the cost of a new purchase. Other respondents noted that continuing to use existing hardware is logical as long as it meets their needs, or they simply choose not to follow new technology trends.

This shift toward longer device lifecycles is occurring as the prices of new mobile devices continue to rise.
