The Kremlin has framed this move as a retaliatory measure against nations deemed unfriendly for their economic and military support of Ukraine. While the decree is characterized as temporary management rather than formal expropriation, the companies lose immediate influence over management, revenue use, and potential asset sales.

In response, the French government has condemned the action and demanded its reversal. Nestlé has stated it is evaluating all legal options to protect its rights and ensure the continuity of operations for its approximately 7,000 employees in Russia. Financial analysts suggest the direct economic impact on Nestlé may be limited, as its Russian sales account for just over 1% of its total revenue.
