Russia shifts grain exports to Baltic Sea ports

Russia is significantly shifting its grain export routes toward the Baltic Sea. Deputy Agriculture Minister Maxim Borovoi stated that the country plans to ship approximately 1.5 million tons of grain through Baltic ports in October, a volume that could match the total exports of the entire previous season within a single month.

This strategic pivot is driven by logistical difficulties at Black Sea and Azov Sea ports. To facilitate this transition, Russian exporters are increasingly using rail transport to move grain from southern agricultural regions, such as Krasnodar, to northwestern Baltic ports. To support these efforts, the Russian government has allocated 9.7 billion rubles for transport subsidies, and officials are seeking to expand these subsidies to cover more regions.
