Russia showcases S-71 weapons and Su-57 fighter in Egypt

Russia showcased new military technology at the International Air Show and Aerospace Expo in El Alamein, Egypt. The state arms exporter Rosoboronexport presented the S-71M and S-71K weapon systems, which are designed for use with the Su-57 stealth fighter. A company representative described the systems as a hybrid, stating they are “neither a drone nor a missile, but something of both,” combining characteristics of cruise missiles with more affordable attack drones.

The event also marked the African debut of the Su-57 fighter jet. While export versions of the aircraft have been seen in China, India, and the United Arab Emirates, this appearance highlights Russia's efforts to target new markets in Africa and the Middle East as alternatives to Western military systems.

Other nations participated in the exhibition, including China with its J-16 fighter jet, as well as defense companies from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
