Russia strikes Kyiv convention center housing Zelenskyy party offices

Russian military strikes targeted a convention center in Kyiv housing the headquarters of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s political party. The attacks occurred on September 23, 2026, while the Ukrainian president was delivering a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In Kyiv, the strikes caused damage to the building's roof and ignited a fire that emergency services eventually controlled. Local authorities reported that two people were killed and 43 injured in the capital. Additional strikes were reported in Oleksandrivka, Donetsk region, where at least five people died and six others were injured.

The strikes coincide with Zelenskyy’s warning to the UN that Ukraine would target Russian heating and energy infrastructure during the winter in response to ongoing aggression. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated before the UN Security Council that Moscow has no intention of a ceasefire, accusing Europe of seeking a pause only to rearm Ukraine.
