Russia strikes Odesa cargo ship and Kyiv bridge
Russian military strikes targeted a cargo ship in the port of Odesa and a major bridge in Kyiv. In Odesa, one crew member was killed and three others were injured during the attack on a vessel flying the Liberian flag. Thirteen other crew members were evacuated to safety. While Ukrainian officials condemned the strike as a deliberate attack on civilian shipping, the Russian military claimed the vessel was targeted because it was transporting military equipment.
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that the Northern Bridge over the Dnieper River was damaged in a nighttime Russian attack. The strike caused damage to the roadway and trolleybus cables, resulting in one-way traffic restrictions. This follows recent strikes on the city’s Southern Bridge. These escalations in maritime and infrastructure attacks have contributed to the near-total halt of shipping traffic in the Black Sea and along the Danube River.
