Russia strikes Ukrainian monastery, killing religious leader

A Russian FPV drone strike targeted a monastery in the Kherson region of Ukraine on Saturday night, resulting in the death of a religious leader and injuring four others.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported widespread Russian strikes across multiple regions, including Kharkiv, Sumy, and Odesa, targeting essential civilian infrastructure. Residential buildings in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia were also hit, with further attacks reported in Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy.

Zelenskyy noted that in the current week alone, Russia has deployed over 2,000 attacking drones—many powered by jet engines—alongside 1,700 aerial bombs and 19 different types of missiles. In response, the President called upon the United States, Europe, and G7 nations to implement new, tougher sanctions and use strategic pressure to force Russia toward peace.
