Russia strikes Ukrainian ports in Odesa region

Russia has launched extensive strikes against Ukrainian maritime and economic infrastructure, specifically targeting ports in the Odesa region. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported using high-precision weapons and drones to strike the Yuzhne (Pivdennyi) port, claiming the attacks hit two cargo ships carrying military supplies, ten military equipment warehouses, and fuel tanks intended for Ukrainian forces.

The strikes also extended to energy infrastructure, including the BS-330 Adzhalyk electrical substation, which provides power to the Yuzhne port. Oleg Kip, the governor of the Odesa region, confirmed that energy facilities in the area were hit, causing fires at several locations.

These operations follow recent statements from Vladimir Putin regarding the targeting of sensitive economic sectors in Ukraine. The escalation focuses on Black Sea ports, which serve as critical arteries for Ukraine’s agricultural exports and national revenue. While Russia maintains these strikes are aimed at neutralizing military logistics and weapon shipments, Kyiv asserts that the campaign constitutes a systematic attack on civilian infrastructure and threatens global food security.
