Russia suspected of sabotaging European weapons factories
Western intelligence sources report that Russia is conducting a campaign of sabotage against European armaments factories. These actions, described as part of a Kremlin “hybrid war,” appear designed to test NATO’s resolve while remaining below the threshold required to trigger Article 5, the alliance’s mutual defense clause.
Recent incidents include an arson attack on August 15 against Milrem Robotics, a Tallinn-based firm and supplier of unmanned ground vehicles to Ukraine. In connection with this attack, Latvian authorities detained three nationals suspected of involvement. This follows a pattern of recent explosions and fires at major arms manufacturers in Italy, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic.
NATO officials state that Russia has accelerated these destabilization efforts, utilizing cyber attacks, assassination attempts, and physical sabotage to escalate tensions among allies and deter continued support for Ukraine.
