Russia targets European readiness via Kaliningrad and military shifts

Western intelligence reports suggest Russia may employ military movements and recruitment operations in the Kaliningrad enclave to pressure European nations. By increasing activity near the borders of Poland and Lithuania, Moscow aims to force European governments to increase spending on military readiness and border protection. This strategy could create a dilemma for European capitals, forcing them to choose between strengthening domestic defenses and continuing military and economic aid to Ukraine.

Simultaneously, the Russian military is undergoing shifts in leadership. While the mandatory retirement age for top generals is 65, the elimination of age limits has allowed senior officials, such as Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, to remain in power.
