NATO and EU officials coordinate response to Russian hybrid threats
NATO leadership and EU ministers are coordinating responses to an increase in Russian hybrid warfare and sabotage across Europe. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Moscow’s attempts to undermine Western unity and support for Ukraine are failing, urging allies to remain calm while continuing defense investments.
NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Grynkewich emphasized the importance of publicly attributing responsibility for hybrid attacks to Moscow to increase the cost of such operations. He noted that initiatives like the ‘Eastern Shield’ mission have already contributed to increased Russian caution regarding drone incursions into Poland and the Baltic states.
In Estonia, authorities officially blamed Russian security services for an August arson attack on the defense contractor Milrem Robotics. Meanwhile, EU ministers are discussing a new protocol to improve coordination between member states and strengthen cooperation with NATO to protect critical infrastructure and public services from sabotage, cyberattacks, and disinformation.
