Russia deploys jet-powered Geran-5 drones against western Ukraine

Russia has deployed new jet-powered Geran-5 drones that are capable of reaching western Ukraine, including the Rivne region, after traveling approximately 850 kilometers. These drones feature advanced technology such as artificial intelligence, machine vision, and digital mapping, allowing them to achieve speeds between 500 and 600 kilometers per hour. Military expert Yuri Knutov suggests this deployment marks a new phase in the conflict aimed at targeting military industrial complexes in Ukraine's rear. Due to their high speed, experts estimate the interception rate for these jet-powered drones is significantly lower than previous models, ranging between 10% and 25%.

In recent operations, the Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting 97 out of 127 Russian drones during a large-scale attack. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated it has targeted Ukrainian military logistics, including railway lines in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions and ten military storage facilities at the Yuzhny port in the Odesa region.
