Russia to commission Perm nuclear submarine with Zircon missiles

Russia confirmed that the Perm-class nuclear attack submarine, built at the Sevmash shipyard, will be commissioned by the end of 2026. The 130‑metre vessel displaces about 13,800 tonnes, can travel at 31 knots, and carries a crew of roughly 64. It is designed to launch Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles as well as torpedoes and vertical‑launch missiles, making it the first platform built from scratch for this weapon system.

Admiral Alexander Moiseev reported that the Navy has already put 20 new ships, vessels and boats into service this year and plans to add another 21 by year‑end, with the Perm submarine the most notable addition. President Vladimir Putin highlighted the induction as a strengthening of the naval leg of Russia’s nuclear triad during a subdued Navy Day ceremony, and officials also announced progress on the nuclear‑capable Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle.
