Russia to review Panamanian repatriation requests from Ukraine conflict

Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York during the UN General Assembly to discuss the return of Panamanian citizens involved in the war in Ukraine.

Lavrov stated that Russia will examine these requests on a case-by-case basis, noting that each situation must be handled individually. The Panamanian government has previously requested that both Russia and Ukraine facilitate the voluntary return of its nationals, regardless of which side of the conflict they are associated with.

Martínez-Acha emphasized that no Panamanian should be forgotten in a war that is not theirs. The discussions aim to maintain open diplomatic channels to find solutions for citizens wishing to leave the conflict zone and return home.
