Russia travel advisories remain high due to conflict and consular limits

Travel to Russia remains subject to high-level warnings from several Western governments despite relatively low street crime in major cities such as Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Kazan.

The US State Department has issued a "Do Not Travel" advisory, citing the risk of arbitrary detention, while the UK Foreign Office and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advise against all travel. Key concerns include limited consular assistance, banking difficulties, reduced flight connections, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has led to drone attacks and temporary airport closures.

Travelers are advised that while traveling to Russia is legal and many enter via eVisa, conventional travel insurance may be voided if official government warnings are ignored. Certain border regions, including Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh, and Rostov-on-Don, are identified as areas to avoid due to military activity.
