Russia-Ukraine war intensifies as Ukraine endures massive power‑grid bombings

A Russian analyst, Dmitry V. Trenin, warned that modern wars are shifting from mechanised combat to digital battles involving artificial intelligence, cyber operations, robotics and space weapons. He argued this transition signals the end of long‑standing Western dominance and the rise of a multipolar world order, with conflicts now playing out across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and the Asia‑Pacific.

At the same time, Russia launched a large‑scale air offensive against Ukraine, employing long‑range Shahed drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. The attacks targeted the Ukrainian electricity network, sub‑stations and distribution facilities, causing civilian casualties, fires, and widespread power outages that disrupted hospitals, transport, water supplies and communications. Thousands of residents sought shelter in metros and basements as emergency crews worked to extinguish fires and rescue trapped individuals.
