Russia warns diplomats and foreigners to leave Kyiv amid intensified strikes

Russia has renewed its warning to foreign nationals and diplomatic personnel to leave Kyiv and avoid traveling to Ukraine, citing the risk of massive retaliatory strikes. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated these actions are a response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure. Recent strikes in Kyiv have targeted critical transport links, including the North Bridge and the South Bridge, causing significant damage to road surfaces and trolleybus wires.

In response to the escalating conflict, the European Union has announced it is preparing its largest-ever sanctions package against Russia. Despite Russian threats, the EU delegation in Kyiv has declared it will continue to operate. Furthermore, the EU has approved defense procurement plans for Ukraine totaling 28.3 billion euros for the current year, supplemented by 6.6 billion euros in direct military aid.

Humanitarian concerns are mounting as the UN Human Rights Office reported that over 15,000 civilians have been killed or injured in Ukraine during the first eight months of 2026, a 55% increase compared to the previous year. UN High Commissioner Volker Turk described the situation as an intensifying human rights catastrophe, noting increased attacks on schools, medical centers, and energy infrastructure.
