Russia warns Moldova of decisive response regarding Transnistria

Russia has issued a warning to Moldova, stating it will respond ‘decisively and without delay’ should the situation in the Transnistria region escalate. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that the Russian Federation guarantees the protection of its citizens and ‘compatriots’ located on the left bank of the Dniester.

The warning comes amid rising tensions related to the upcoming Russian State Duma elections. Tiraspol has announced the opening of 17 polling stations within the territory of the Republic of Moldova to facilitate voting. Additionally, the statement follows recent actions by Chisinau regarding national reintegration efforts, specifically the removal of tax facilities for Transnistrian economic entities.

Galuzin previously noted that any military challenges against the region by Kyiv or Chisinau authorities would be treated by Moscow as an attack on the Russian Federation. While acknowledging Chisinau's assurances regarding a peaceful settlement, the diplomat emphasized that the risk of escalation should not be ruled out.
