Russia warns of maritime retaliation as Cuba honors Fidel Castro

Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted a review of Pacific Fleet exercises in the Sakhalin region of the Russian Far East. During a meeting held aboard the guided-missile cruiser Varyag, Putin issued a warning that Russia would respond if European nations seize Russian commercial vessels, characterizing such actions as violations of international maritime law. This stance comes as the European Union increases inspections and sanctions against vessels suspected of operating as part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet.’

In Cuba, celebrations were held in Havana to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of former leader Fidel Castro. The commemorative event at the Karl Marx Theater featured historical footage of the revolutionary leader. Notably, his brother, former President Raul Castro, made his first public appearance in several months at the age of 95.
