Russia warns UK of retaliation over missile support for Ukraine
Russia has issued warnings to the United Kingdom, stating that British military installations and equipment could become targets both within Ukraine and beyond its borders. This escalation follows reports of the UK providing support for long-range missile capabilities, including the potential transfer of blueprints for the production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova characterized the UK’s actions as ‘playing with fire,’ suggesting that Britain is nearing legal complicity in strikes against Russian territory. Moscow’s threats come amid discussions regarding the integration of British components into the SCALP missile—the French variant of the Storm Shadow—which has a range exceeding 155 miles.
The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence has maintained its commitment to supporting Kyiv, stating it stands ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with Ukraine to provide necessary defense equipment. These tensions highlight the increasing risk of direct confrontation between Moscow and Western military interests as Ukraine seeks to enhance its deep-strike capabilities.
