Russian Ambassador faces criticism over remarks on Czech Republic
Russian Ambassador Anna Ponomarjovová has drawn sharp criticism following an interview with the state-owned news agency RIA Novosti, in which she accused the Czech Republic of Russophobia and conducting hostile campaigns against the Russian Federation.
In the interview, Ponomarjovová characterized Czech diplomatic actions—including visa restrictions for embassy staff and journalists, and the removal of a Soviet Marshal's monument—as unfounded provocations. She claimed that the Czech Republic, alongside the United States, has engaged in unfriendly steps against Russian citizens and the state since 2021.
Critics have labeled her statements as interference in domestic affairs and a manipulation of facts regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and bilateral relations. The interview was subsequently published by the Russian House in Prague, an entity operated by Rossotrudnichestvo, which is subject to European Union sanctions.
