Bulgaria's Progressive Bulgaria targets new Supreme Judicial Council by November
Petar Vitanov, leader of the Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group, has announced that a new Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) should be elected by the beginning of November. This move is intended to initiate a long-awaited judicial reform in Bulgaria.
Vitanov stated that the party is currently selecting candidates for the VSS. He emphasized that the election of the council is the first step toward electing the 'big three': the Prosecutor General and the presidents of the two supreme courts. He expressed openness to negotiating specific names with other parliamentary forces that wish to distance themselves from the Borisov-Peevski political model.
Beyond judicial matters, Vitanov outlined several other legislative priorities for the autumn. These include amending the Law on Underground Wealth to align Bulgarian mining concession fees with European standards, implementing healthcare reforms to prevent abuses, and optimizing state administration by reducing the number of members and salaries in public enterprise boards.
