A Moscow district court issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Zhanna Nemtsova, the daughter of slain opposition politician Boris Nemtsov. The charge is participation in an “undesirable organisation”, identified as the Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom – a charity Nemtsova co‑founded in Germany in 2015 and registered in Bonn. Russia added the foundation to its list of “undesirable” entities in 2024, banning its activities and allowing penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment for funding and up to six years for organising such work. Nemtsova, who left Russia after her father’s 2015 assassination, responded on Facebook with the remark “I’m famous now”. The case recalls Nemtsov’s murder on 27 February 2015 near the Kremlin and the 2017 conviction of five Chechen men for carrying out the killing for a cash reward, while the masterminds remain unpunished.
