Russian diesel tanker approaches US coast following Trump-Putin deal

The tanker Minerva Zen, carrying approximately 230,000 to 280,000 barrels of Russian diesel, is approaching the United States east coast. The vessel departed from Saint Petersburg on September 22, weeks before Donald Trump publicly announced an agreement with Vladimir Putin regarding the delivery of 300,000 tons of fuel.

This timeline suggests that the logistics and contracts for the fuel delivery were established well before the official announcement of a temporary relaxation of sanctions on Russian petroleum products. While the shipment is significant, maritime analysts note that Russian diesel exports have dropped sharply in the third quarter, and these volumes are unlikely to impact global deficits or US domestic prices.

The Minerva Zen, which operates under a Greek flag, is reportedly heading toward the port of Wilmington. The movement highlights a parallel development in trade relations between Washington and Moscow that preceded the public diplomatic messaging regarding economic pressure and sanctions.
