Russian drone strike hits railway near Ukraine-Poland border
A Russian drone strike targeted a railway line near Yahodyn, close to the border between Ukraine and Poland. The attack occurred as several high-profile Western figures were transiting the region following a military conference in Kyiv.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt were traveling on a train that had departed the station shortly before the strike. Former CIA Director David Petraeus was also present at the station during the incident. While Russia stated it was targeting railway infrastructure in western Ukraine, the state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, suggested the drone may have been aimed at a train carrying a diplomatic delegation.
No casualties were reported. The strike took place approximately two kilometers from the Polish border. Experts suggest the action may have been intended as a warning to visiting dignitaries rather than a direct assassination attempt.
