Russian drone strikes Turkish cargo ship in Danube Delta

A Turkish-owned cargo ship, the M/V Mariam M, was struck by a Russian drone in the Danube Delta canal near the Romanian border. The vessel, which flies the Tanzanian flag, was traveling from Latakia, Syria, toward Galati, Romania.

The strike caused a significant fire, destroying the bridge and the crew's quarters. Reports regarding casualties vary between sources. Turkish media reports that two people died, including the captain and a pilot, with 13 others injured. Conversely, Ukrainian sources state that the captain was killed and three crew members were injured.

The incident occurred in the Bastroe Canal, a critical route for commercial vessels moving from the Black Sea to Ukrainian Danube ports such as Izmail and Reni.
