Russian Embassy in Vienna noise disturbance reportedly ends
A persistent, continuous noise emanating from the Russian Embassy in Vienna-Landstraße has reportedly ceased as of Friday. The noise, which had been bothering local residents for months, was identified by city authorities as a health hazard.
Following reports of the disturbance, the Vienna Building Police conducted noise measurements on Tuesday. The results indicated that the noise levels exceeded the permitted daytime levels according to ÖNORM standards. Officials identified roof fans on a building belonging to the Russian Embassy as the source of the sound, which featured a distinct component at approximately 790 Hertz.
Local residents and neighboring property management had been complaining since May, noting that the noise was particularly noticeable at night. The disturbance was also reported by the nearby German Embassy. While the Russian Embassy had previously stated they were unaware of any noise or complaints, the sound was observed to have disappeared suddenly on Friday afternoon and remained absent through Saturday evening.
