Russian engineer Alexander Sergeev patents new two-stroke engine cycle

Alexander Sergeev, an engineer from Samara, Russia, has been granted a patent for a new generation of two-stroke internal combustion engine control cycles. The invention aims to achieve a “two increases, one decrease” effect: increasing power and thermal efficiency while significantly reducing exhaust toxicity.

The core of the technology lies in the complete separation of the fuel-air mixture preparation from the actual combustion process. A dense, rich mixture is first prepared within a separate compression cylinder. This mixture is then fed into a ring-shaped auxiliary combustion chamber, or prechamber, which surrounds the main combustion chamber.

In the prechamber, the fuel mixes with compressed air from the working cylinder to create a leaner, more uniform mixture. Ignition is triggered by multiple spark plugs located directly within the prechamber. The resulting flames are injected into the main combustion chamber to ignite the remaining fuel mixture, enhancing operational stability and power output.
